Collapse and Measures of Consciousness

چکیده

There has been an upsurge of interest lately in developing Wigner's hypothesis that conscious observation causes collapse by exploring dynamical models which some purportedly quantifiable aspect(s) consciousness resist superposition. Kremnizer-Ranchin, Chalmers-McQueen and Okon-Sebasti\'an have explored the idea may be associated with a numerical measure consciousness. More recently, argued any single is inadequate because it will allow superpositions distinct states equal to persist. They suggest satisfactory model needs associate set measures quantifying aspects consciousness, such as "Q-shapes" defined Tononi et al. their "integrated information theory" (IIT) I argue here Chalmers-McQueen's argument against associating requires precise symmetry between brain different experiences thus does not apply only case where we strong intuitions, namely human (or other terrestrial biological) observers. In defence stance, might idealized artificial processing networks could display symmetries. However, theory (such IIT) postulates map from network mind should assign identical isomorphic (as IIT does). This suggests that, if exists, no familiar components states, viewing colours, or experiencing pleasure pain, are likely related

task-based instruction, consciousness-raising and iranian efl learners acquisition and use of collocation

the present study sought to examine whether a task-based approach could have an impact on raising awareness of collocations. moreover, it sought to investigate the facilitative role of consciousness-raising tasks of collocations in the communicative instances of use. to this end, 68 intermediate learners of english were selected via a placement test. the participants were taught with classroom ...

Optimizing subjective measures of consciousness.

Dienes and Seth (2010) conclude that confidence ratings and post-decision wagering are two comparable and recommendable measures of conscious experience. In a recently submitted paper, we have however found that both methods are problematic and seem less suited to measure consciousness than a direct introspective measure. Here, we discuss the methodology and conclusions put forward by Dienes an...

Does Consciousness Collapse the Wave-Packet?

The “subjective reduction” interpretation of measurement in quantum physics proposes that the collapse of the wave-packet, associated with measurement, is due to the consciousness of human observers. A refined conceptual replication of an earlier experiment, designed and carried out to test this interpretation in the 1970s, is reported. Two improvements are introduced. First, the delay between ...

Metacognitive Networks and Measures of Consciousness

Subjective measures of awareness rest on the assumption that conscious knowledge is knowledge that participants know they possess. Post-decision wagering, recently proposed as an objective measure of awareness, raised a new controversy on determining the properties that should characterize the objectivity of an awareness measure. Indeed, if the method appears objective in many aspects – it does...
